Founder & Lead Therapist

Jeremy Nikel, MSW, LCSW, SAP

I began my healing journey after completing a career as a pilot in the US Navy. The transition from military to civilian life was harder than I ever expected and I found the help at the time to be woefully inadequate. Like many veterans, I wrestled with the invisible battles of anxiety, depression, and the lingering effects of my time in service. I struggled far more than I wanted to admit as my identity, once shaped by rank and duty, now felt uncertain.

I returned to school to become a mental health therapist hoping to help others navigate the treacherous waters that I had experienced. During that time, I helped found and lead a non-profit that still serves veterans to this day. I naturally started mentoring other veterans who were struggling with their transitions. As more and more people reached out, sharing similar struggles and seeking guidance, I knew this wasn't just a side project - it was a calling.

With a mix of determination and a deep sense of mission, I founded my own mental health practice. I trained diligently in the available treatment modalities, but soon learned that our treatment approaches for the most part had not advanced in decades. Despite a growing mental health problem globally, we seemed to be stuck in old medicalized ways that were not making a dent in the problem.

Through my own research and curiosity, I learned about the exciting breakthrough research being done by the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS). I petitioned and was accepted into an intensive joint training program between the Department of Veterans Affairs, MAPS, and the Mt. Sinai school of medicine in MDMA-Assisted Therapy. I learned first hand how revolutionary psychedelic assisted therapy promised to be.

Recognizing that MDMA and other promising psychedelic medicines could take years, if not decades, to obtain FDA approval, I looked to the only legally available option in the psychedelic space, Ketamine. The more I learned about Ketamine, the more excited I became in its unique ability to provide healing. Seeing no reason to wait for other medicines when such an effective option is already available, I pursued additional professional training in Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) from industry leaders Polaris Insight and Journey Clinical/Fluence.

As the research base continues to grow, the future of mental health treatment looks brighter than ever. There are now hundreds of multi-disciplinary studies showing the effectiveness of Ketamine and other psychedelics to act as catalysts and non-specific amplifiers in greatly enhancing the therapeutic process and accelerating healing.
